Announcing the winners of the Hirepool Trailer Backing Contest!
Congratulations to our top three winners at the trailer backing contest held at buildnz | designex & National Safety Show 4 & 5 July 2018 at Auckland’s ASB Showgrounds.
It was a tight course requiring confidence, experience and a level head. The quickest times won but points were deducted for any barrier hits – and there were plenty of those. Official video highlights coming soon. Cover image DJ MR Brown providing the Builders Base Beats.

Great to see the ladies participating coming in from across Auckland. One contestant mentioned her boss gave her the time off solely to give it a go. Nice one boss!
Myself, Trudy who talked a big game in fact came in at the bottom of the leaderboard with 4 mins 54 sec. I put it down to the guys shouting incorrect instructions to put me off my game. (you know who you are!) Sadly not an unusual occurrence when it’s the woman who is the one backing the trailer! I am however looking forward to the great team at Hirepool to give me some pointers for next time.
And the winners are…
1st place with a very convincing win and lightening speed was Mr Kelly Beatson with an incredible 0.38 seconds. Precision at its finest. Kelly takes home a trip for two to Boomrock Lodge in Wellington with flights and accommodation. Activities include clay pigeon shooting, extreme golf, 4wding, skidpad, clifftop lunch with amazing views and more.
2nd place went to Mr Hayden Brown with a close 0.44 seconds. Marvelous effort that, from yet another very skilled driver. We hope you enjoy your new Hilti tool prize pack.
3rd place with another excellent time is Brett Simpkin at 0.46 seconds showing the confidence of a seasoned professional and convincingly within the leading pack. Congratulations on also taking home a Hilti prize.
High five to all the ladies who took part and well done to Sarah on 1 min 22 sec. It all comes down to experience so whenever you get the chance – jump in the driver’s seat and start backing that trailer!
