Builders co-op cuts costs – but will consumers benefit?

A new builders’ co-operative will give smaller firms the same materials buying power as big corporates but it remains to be seen if savings will be passed on to new home buyers.

The founders of the Combined Building Supplies Co-operative aim to roll it out in other regions around New Zealand in coming months, and say it will save considerably on building materials.

More than 76 firms have paid the shareholding investment of $1000 to become eligible for membership, and more than a dozen suppliers have agreed to take part.
