New guidelines for safe work on precast concrete

Precast concrete is widely used in New Zealand. Offices, homes and parking buildings often include precast panels, beams, columns or stairs. Precast concrete is also used to make road barriers, manhole covers and pipes.

We’ve worked closely with industry and union representatives to develop new good practice guidelines for safe work with precast concrete. Consultation feedback has helped to shape the final document.

The new guidelines are for businesses such as designers, manufacturers, suppliers, installers and importers. They are also for workers and other people who handle, transport or erect precast concrete.

The guidelines explain HSWA requirements that apply to precast concrete work, and current good practice.

These guidelines will replace the now-outdated 2002 ACOP for precast concrete.
