Whangarei : Building Consent Information

Dear Building Industry

As we are approaching COVID-19 alert level 3 on Tuesday 28 April, please be advised that inspections will be recommencing subject to appropriate protocols being in place.  Processing remotely will continue until the country enters alert level 2.

Below is a high-level list of functions we will be undertaking:

Inspections under Alert Level 3 (from 28 April 2020)

  • This can be booked in the normal manner by calling the building team at Council (please note that bulk inspection bookings will not be allowed, and previously cancelled inspections will be our priority)
  • Please note that there will be additional questions asked and recorded by the team to ensure we all have the right safety measures in place (this will be done at booking time and then on site)
  • We are not using health and safety app. We have our own systems; however, you are able to ask any questions you need to when the officer gets on site
  • Please notify the booking office if a site (re-) induction is required
  • Building officers will provide information on where they have been and where they are going and a declaration of their health
  • Inspections will be completed electronically, and records sent via email
  • Onsite social distancing must be maintained at all times
  • Building officers will only deal with one nominated person on site and this must not change unless all of the COVID-19 questions have been re answered satisfactorily
  • If the Building officer feels at risk, they will remove themselves from the site

Processing under Alert Level 3 (PIM/PA, BC, CCC, Building administration work, BWOF, Swimming Pool, LIM, NES and potential site contaminations. (from 28 April 2020)

  • Please note only building inspections relating to a building consent will take place during alert level 3
  • Swimming pool inspections, BWOF audits and IQP renewals will be done remotely
  • BC processing will be assessed electronically via the EB portal
  • PIM/PA will be assessed electronically via the EB
  • CCC applications will be processed with the information available
  • LIM applications will be assessed electronically, and file searches may involve scanning or ordering paper file records for completion (we will email the applicant on this status)
  • NES/ potential soil contamination searches will be assessed electronically, and file searches may involve scanning or ordering paper file records for completion (we will email the applicant on this status).

During this time council will have limited people working at the office in accordance with the alert level 3 criteria so access to paper file records may be slower than normal and we appreciate your patience.
